Bert Lathrop began his legal career after two previous distinguished careers in information technology management and business development / M&A consulting. During the former, he held executive leadership positions in large Silicon Valley infrastructure technology providers and in financial services firms. Bert went on to consult for Global 100 firms and large private equity, concentrating on technology related matters in M&A transactions. In his last assignment before law school, he co-founded a cybersecurity firm whose mission was to compile and publish threat intelligence data for Internet security. At this firm, he held the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Customer Officer.
Bert attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California, graduating magna cum laude and concentrating his studies in business law, his area of deep interest throughout much of his varied career. Leveraging his experience in cybersecurity, while serving as Senior Note Editor on the lauded Hastings Law Journal, Bert authored a research note entitled The Inadequacies of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, which was published in 2020 by the Hastings Law Journal and for which he was also awarded the Albert G. Evans Scholarship in Private Enterprise.
In addition to his legal education, Bert earned his MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Paris HEC, graduating class valedictorian, as well as his BSc in Computer Information Systems from Excelsior College, graduating summa cum laude.
